Maryborough used to be one of the most vibrant, multicultural and wealthy places on earth. Today this old Goldrush town in regional Victoria is one of the whitest and most disadvantaged towns in Australia and its population is ageing fast .

And so, in a unique social experiment, eight households are invited to leave their city lives behind and make this place home. A Council backed three month Pilot Project that could show the way for struggling towns right across Australia.

Could the new residents breathe new life into the town and will the move be life changing for them? Not all the locals are convinced, but with the town’s future at stake and the rest of the country looking on - will the experiment work?
